Yarra Trams

Toorak Road West Tram Diversion

Our challenge

We were tasked with the construction of new tram tracks along Toorak Road and two new tram stops to facilitate the ongoing operation of the route 58 tram. This was while the new underground station at Domain is built and required St Kilda Road (a major route into the city) between Domain Road and Kings Way / Toorak Road to be temporarily reduced to one lane in each direction, with buses replacing trams between Shrine of Remembrance and High Street. The project was to design the transport management strategy that would facilitate safe and efficient movement of all transport modes during this period.

Our impact

We worked collaboratively with State Authorities, Local Authorities and a diverse group of stakeholders and lead the design of the transport management strategy. Our role encompassed design and performance analysis, stakeholder presentations, pre mortem assessments of the transport management plans, on-site audits and refinement of the implemented transport management strategy. Our transport management strategy contributed to a safe network outcome with no crashes recorded, and less than expected delays for motorists and tram users during the 2-week construction period.
